A Bridgeport man accused of wreaking havoc on two golf courses in Fairfield by stealing a golf cart from one course and smashing it into golf carts at another course was arrested Sunday.
Police said Masanobu E. Massiah, 25, of Westfield Avenue, stole a golf cart from an elderly woman playing golf at Brooklawn Country Club on Algonquin Road in Fairfield and drove the cart to Fairchild Wheeler Golf Club, where he smashed it into three golf carts, causing $1,600 in damage, as well as additional damage to the greens, police said.
The golf cart Massiah stole had the elderly woman's golf clubs in the back of the cart, along with her golf bag and pocketbook, police said. The golf clubs were valued at $1,900, the golf bag was valued at $180 and the pocketbook was valued at $40, police said. "They were on the cart when he stole it," said Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman.
Golfers at Fairchild Wheeler held Massiah around the 16th hole until police officers arrived about 1:44 p.m. and arrested him, police said.
Massiah was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal trespass, one count of first-degree criminal mischief and two counts of third-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear May 31 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.
