Hundreds 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' to Combat Abuse, Assault in Fairfield County

Hundreds of supporters turned out Saturday for the Center for Women and Families' first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.

Fairfield's own Police Chief Gary MacNamara donned a pair of bright red pumps to walk the mile course to raise awareness and funding for the Center, which combats domestic violence and sexual assault.

MacNamara and the Fairfield Police Department have partnered with the Center on the White Ribbon campaign, an ongoing effort to end violence against women by getting men involved in the process of "personal, relational, and social change," according to the Center's website.

The Center provides free programming and services to victims in six towns in eastern Fairfield County: Bridgeport, Fairfield, Easton, Stratford, Trumbull, and Monroe.

Monies raised by walkers and supporters will go toward those free programs and services, like court advocacy for victims, child sexual assault forensic interviews, community education, and more.

Watch the video to hear from those involved with the Center for Women and Families and the fight to end domestic violence and sexual abuse.
