Police informed the driver of the stop and detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Santiago appeared to become nervous, according to the police report. The officer requested consent to search the vehicle and questioned Santiago, who admitted to carrying marijuana on his person, police said.

Santiago turned over six plastic bags of the green substance -- which tested positive for marijuana -- to police. Santiago was arrested and taken into custody and the driver, who said she was unaware that her passenger had weed on him, was given a verbal warning, police said.
