Man Charged in Southport Burglary

A Bridgeport man was arrested Tuesday following a reported burglary in Southport.

Police believe the suspect -- identified as Michael Ziman, 26, of Jewitt Avenue -- is responsible for other burglaries that occurred in Fairfield in April.

Investigators developed Ziman as a suspect and determined he was driving a dark blue Lexus ES 330 four-door sedan. Detectives noticed the suspect car while conducting surveillance in Southport Tuesday.

The car was parked, unoccupied, and running at the intersection of Juniper Lane and Barberry Road. A white male entered the car within a few minutes and drove away at a high rate of speed, according to the report.

Investigators conducted a motor vehicle stop and detained the suspect -- identified as Ziman -- on suspicion of burglary. Detectives surveyed the neighborhood and found evidence of forced entry into a Juniper Lane home. Later, the homeowner called police to report items -- including jewelry -- were stolen, police said.

The suspect had jewelry on his person when police detained him, according to the report.

The vehicle was towed, impounded, and searched. Items that could have been used to aid a burglary were recovered, police said.

Ziman was charged with third-degree burglary. His bond was set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 21.

Police are working to determine Ziman's connection to other burglaries. Details about the recent burglaries had been supplied to investigators by a "very astute resident," according to the report.
