A Fairfield man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, restrained her against her will, and then disrupted a witness's call to police, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Suzanne Lussier.

David Vecchiarino, 47, of Grasmere Avenue, reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, Lussier said. He allegedly prevented his girlfriend from leaving the scene by holding her in a car, against her will.

When a witness attempted to call 911 to report the incident, Vecchiarino sprayed a garden hose at the witness, disconnecting the call, according to police.

Police were able to respond to the scene soon after and found the victim, who was bleeding from facial injuries. Vecchiarino reportedly admitted to hitting her, Lussier said.

Vecchiarino was charged with third-degree assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, first-degree unlawful restraint, and interfering with an emergency call. He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
