A Fairfield man was charged with driving under the influence Thursday night after he reportedly lost control of his car and veered into a stone wall, police said.
David Tanis, 21, of Avalon Court was also charged with failure to drive right, according to the police report. Police determined Tanis was driving eastbound on Old Post Road when the accident occurred. Tanis reportedly told police a car was driving westbound at a high rate of speed straight at Tanis’, which caused him to veer to the side of the road.
Accident investigators, however, deemed the occurrence a one-car accident. Tanis reportedly failed three field sobriety tests as well as a Breathalyzer test, department spokesperson Sgt. Fred Hine said. Tanis told police he had some wine earlier in the evening, Hine said.
Tanis and a passenger were both treated on scene and refused transportation to a hospital for further evaluation. Tanis was turned over to his mother after posting a $100 bond and is due in court on June 11.
