A West Haven man was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing a purse from a patron of The Pantry in September, police said.

Joseph Biancheri, 23, was charged with attempted fifth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card, and receiving goods and/or services obtained through the illegal use of a credit card, according to the police report.

The complainant reported to police on Sept. 16 that her purse had been stolen from her shopping cart while at The Pantry on the Post Road. An investigation in conjunction with Citibank revealed that more than $1,000 in fraudulent charges were made against her credit card, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

Police were able to obtain the license plate information of the suspect's car through surveillance footage. This information led investigators to arrest Biancheri.

Biancheri was held in lieu of a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared in court on Friday.
