Man, Woman Assaulted in Street Robbery Outside Bank

Woman Taken to Hospital With Bloody Nose

A man and woman were assaulted outside Chase Bank on the Post Road in Fairfield in what police described as a "strong arm robbery" Saturday night.

The woman, bleeding heavily from her nose, was taken by AMR Ambulance Co. to Norwalk Hospital. The man who was hit on the side of the head, causing him to fall to the pavement, did not require medical attention. The woman's pocketbook was stolen, but it wasn't immediately clear what was inside, police said.

Police said the woman was in a car in the parking lot of the 1401 Post Road bank about 7:24 p.m. and her friend was leaning against a car parked next to hers when an unidentified man and woman approached them and asked for money.

The woman in the car said she didn't have any money, and one of the assailants - police said it wasn't clear which one - punched her in the nose and grabbed her pocketbook. The woman's friend was assaulted after the male robber held out his hand for money, was refused and then struck the woman's friend in the face, causing him to fall to the pavement. Police said the male victim wasn't sure what he was hit with, but believes it might have been the man's elbow. Neither victim reported seeing any weapons, police said.

The female victim was bleeding heavily from her nose when officers arrived, and the male victim had a cut on the left side of his face, police said.

The assailants then fled on foot on the Old Post Road, heading toward Oldfield Road. An area police department brought a K-9 to the scene, but the police dog lost the assailants' scent on Old Post Road, leading police to believe they left in a car from that location, police said.

The male assailant was described by police as black or Hispanic, with curly long hair and tattoos on his lower arm, and wearing a baseball cap. The female assailant was described by police as light-skinned and black or Hispanic, with light-colored hair and wearing glasses with black rims. She had long, fake fingernails, police said. Both assailants were described as from 18 to 20 years of age, police said.

Anyone with information on the robbery can call the Fairfield Police Department's Detective Division at 203-254-4840.
