Minivan Strikes Pole, Overturns Saturday Morning
Elderly driver appeared in good condition, incident commander observed.
Firefighters had to free a driver from his overturned minivan Saturday morning at the intersection of Sturges and Unquowa roads.
In a news release, Asst. Chief Chris Tracy said his department received a call at 7:28 a.m. about a vehicle that struck a utility pole and then rolled on its side.
At the scene, responders found an Oldsmobile minivan rolled on its passenger side with the elderly driver in the vehicle. The pole was sheared off at its base.

After stabilizing the vehicle, firefighters removed the windshield and extricated the man.
The incident commander at the scene, Asst. Chief Stephen Curry, said the driver appeared to be in good condition. He was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent's Hospital.

A crew from United Illuminating was dispatched to replace the pole.
Fairifield Police are investigating the accident.
