Minor Injuries in Rollover on Parkway

Single-Car Accident Briefly Closes Southbound Lanes

A college-aged man escaped serious injuries this afternoon after his car rolled over on the Merritt Parkway between exits 46 and 44 on the southbound side.

Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Curry, the incident commander, said the driver was sitting on the side of the parkway being tended to by Good Samaritans when firefighters arrived on the scene about 3:30 p.m. The car remained on its roof in the parkway's southbound lanes until a wrecker could remove it, which required the parkway's southbound side to be closed for about 20 minutes, Curry said.

The man, Nicholas Russo, was taken by AMR Ambulance Co. to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, according to emergency responders. Russo's age and hometown weren't immediately available.
