Motorcyclist Dies on I-95

Authorities: Witnesses Report Motorcyclist was Weaving In and Out of Traffic Before Crash

A 22-year-old Fairfield motorcyclist died tonight after he crashed on the northbound side of Interstate 95 in the town's Southport section.

The motorcyclist lived on Judd Street in Fairfield, according to information on his driver's license, authorities said, but he was not immediately identified by emergency responders.

I-95's northbound side was shut down for about an hour after the crash, which happened about 10 p.m., though State Police were reopening a single lane several minutes ago to let traffic through.

Emergency responders said witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic before the crash. The motorcyclist struck a couple of cars but no one else appeared to be injured, authorities said.

Sirens could be heard for miles about 10 p.m. tonight as Fairfield firefighters, state police and Fairfield police officers raced to the scene.

The crash took place between exits 19 and 21. There is no exit 20 on the highway's northbound side.
