'Naked' Woman Takes Ride on Fairfield Beach

Resident reports what she thinks is a naked woman riding a horse on the beach. In other news - several burglary-related arrests were made this weekend.

Nude Beach in Fairfield?

A Fairfield Beach Road resident reported on Oct. 7 that a naked woman was riding a horse on the beach, police said.

Upon closer inspection, police found the woman was actually wearing a flesh-colored bikini and had not broken any laws.

“I guess from a distance it was hard to tell,” Sue Lussier, the department spokesperson, said.

Rash of Burglary Arrests Made This Weekend

Preciosa Antunes, 43, of 296 Ruth Street in Bridgeport, was arrested Oct. 7 for larceny in the sixth degree for an incident that occurred on June 15, 2011, police said.

An unidentified black male had been circling the Wilson Street neighborhood in a car with Antunes that day in June, dropping her off and picking her up, police said. Antunes was carrying a black box, later identified as a UPS delivery a resident had ordered, which Antunes picked up from outside the home.

Her court date is Oct. 21 and she was released on a written promise to appear in court, according to Lussier.

A Bridgeport man was arrested Oct. 7 for attempted burglaries at six different sites in Fairfield in August, police said.

Angel Alvarado-Vazquez, 30, of 1589 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, was charged with four counts of attempt to commit burglary in the third degree, two counts of criminal mischief in the first degree, two counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, and four counts of possession of burglary tools, Lussier said.

The incidents occurred on Aug. 29,  when he was caught trying to steal from Mancuso’s Restaurant and Wired Wash Wax, police said. He had also been identified as attempting to burgle the Wine Rack and Giant Steps School.

He was arrested in court Friday for the other two attempts, at the Scap Dodge showroom at 360 Tunxis Hill Road and Scap’s parts department at 461 Tunxis Hill Road, police said. Police discovered the doors to both sites had been pried open. He was identified for these last incidents after the fact, though they all occurred sometime in the night on Aug. 29.

His court date was Oct. 7 and he is being held on a $1,000 bond, police said.

Leroy McDaniel, 54, of West Haven, was arrested on Oct. 7 for larceny in the third degree for taking $8,665 worth of equipment from Home Depot, according to police.

Sometime during the night of June 15, 2011, McDaniel and at least one other person drove a U-Haul truck into the outside storage area of the 541 Kings Highway Cutoff Home Depot, which was enclosed by a security wire and lock, police said. The store’s Lost Prevention reported eight items were missing the next morning that morning.

With the help of the Stratford and Madison police departments, McDaniel was identified for this incident after being identified for stealing from a Pier 1 Imports in Danbury, police said. His court date was Oct. 7 and he is being held on a $1,000 bond.

A Stratford man was arrested on Oct. 7 for two counts of burglary in the third degree, one count of larceny in the third degree, and one count of theft of a credit card after stealing from two parked cars in Fairfield in August, police said.

On Aug. 22, George Siler, 21, took a backpack containing a Dell laptop and a wallet with a Bank of America debit card from two cars parked in driveway of 115 Smedley Road, police reported. The cardholder was advised to cancel his bank card, but a $1 charge at a Shell gas station on Boston Ave in Bridgeport was applied before the card was canceled.

Siler was stopped by Shelton police on Aug. 24 for attempting to break into a car in Shelton, Lussier said. He cooperated with Shelton police and admitted to taking the laptop and card.

His court date was Oct. 7, and he is being held on a $1,000 bond.

Party Foul

Laura Maloney, 21, of Weston, Mass., was arrested Oct. 9 for disorderly conduct after she hosted a “loud and unreasonable party” at her Fairfield Beach Road residence, Lussier said.

A neighbor complained of the noise and police found that Maloney was hosting a large group of people inside the home.

Her court date is Oct. 19 and she was released on written promise to appear in court.

Area Thefts

The homeowner of 3947 Park Avenue reported Oct. 8 that a diamond and sapphire ring and a Dell laptop were taken and pawned by her ex-boyfriend, police said.

The ring is valued at $1,000; the laptop at $1,200, according to Lussier.

This is under investigation.

A Longview Avenue resident reported on Oct. 7 that, sometime in the days prior, her TomTom GPS, purple iPod, and a DVD player were taken from her car, which was unlocked in the driveway, police said.

The GPS is valued at $150, the iPod at $200, and the DVD player at $100. This is under investigation.

How Did These Fireworks Get Here?

A Brookfield Avenue resident returned from a few days away from home on Oct. 9 to find spent fireworks all over his front yard, driveway – and even on top of his car.

No damage was reported.

What Are YOU Watching at Starbucks?

A young Starbucks customer got more than she paid for when she discovered a man in the coffee shop watching porn on his computer “in a way others can see” on Oct. 8, Lussier said.

The girl had her mother call in to report this to police.

This has happened at Starbucks before, police said, and it is under investigation.
