PD Investigates Recent Rash of Thefts, Burglaries

Fairfield police are investigating a series of recent thefts and burglaries in town:

A Lockwood Road resident reported on Thursday that two jewelry boxes was taken from his home between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. that afternoon, police said.

Approximately $2,000 worth of jewelry was stolen and several drawers in the master bedroom appeared to have been rifled through, though nothing more was reported stolen.

The complainant believes entry may have been gained through an unlocked back door; no signs of forced entry were reported.

Two boxes of ThinkPad tablet computers were reportedly stolen from the Mail and Duplicating Center at . The suspected theft was reported Thursday after an inventory check.

The total value of the two boxes -- containing eight stolen tablets -- is $11,464, according to the police report.

A vehicle parked on Harris Street was reportedly broken into sometime between 8 p.m. on Saturday and 6:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The owner of the vehicle reported a backpack with a wallet containing various credit cards and several forms of ID were stolen. The front passenger window had been shattered, resulting in $300 worth of damage.

Two dirt bikes were stolen from a garage on Halley Avenue sometime overnight between Thursday and Friday.

The complainant believes entry may have been gained through a broken window on the garage.

The bikes are valued at a combined $7,000, police said.

A ride-on lawn tractor and two push mowers were reportedly stolen from at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The theft was reported Friday afternoon after a review of surveillance footage. The video showed two individuals taking the tractor, which was located outside the front door of the store, and fleeing with it in a Dodge Caravan.

The tractor is valued at $1,699, police said. Employees also noticed that two push mowers ($200 each) were missing, but clues to their whereabouts were not found in surveillance footage.

A Berwick Avenue resident reported his lawn tractor had been stolen sometime Friday -- but he found it down the street after reporting it missing.

It appeared the suspect tried to flee on the tractor and did not get far before abandoning the tractor.

A Brooklawn Avenue residence was ransacked sometime over the last week while the family was away, police said.

Upon the residents' return on Saturday, they found the entire home was rifled through and items were missing. The stolen items were not disclosed in the police report.

It was unclear how entry was gained, according to police.

A snowmobile was stolen from the driveway of an Oldfield Drive home sometime on Saturday, police said.

A neighbor reported seeing an older red pickup truck driving on the street that afternoon. He told police that the operator got out of the vehicle to look at the snowmobile but did not see the person take it.

The snowmobile is valued at approximately $500.

A Riverside Drive resident reported on Saturday that his black Trek road bike was taken from an unlocked shed on his property sometime in the last week.

The bike is valued at approximately $750, police said.
