Peace Pole Stolen from Fairfield's North Stratfield School

This is the second peace pole reported stolen this month.

A custodian at reported that the school’s peace pole has been stolen, police said. This is the second time a peace pole has been reported stolen this month -- the other was taken from , police said.

The 6-foot tall, dark-brown oak pole, which had been encased in cement in front of the school, is worth several hundred dollars and was donated, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

The custodian said it was swiped sometime over the holiday recess, according to the report.

Police arrested a Norwalk man on Wednesday in connection to a theft that occurred outside of in October, police said.

Stephen Martin, 39, was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny, three counts of third-degree identity theft, and three counts of illegal credit card use after he allegedly stole a woman’s purse from her car, which was parked on Carter Henry Drive, according to the police report.

The purse contained an iPad, iPhone, and credit cards, Lussier said. Fairfield police worked with the Norwalk department to develop the suspect after surveillance video from the Main Avenue in Norwalk showed Martin using the woman’s credit card to purchase Boost mobile phones and a flat screen TV, totaling $402, Lussier said.

Martin was held in lieu of a $15,000 bond; his court date is Jan. 24.

The man who was struck by a car at the intersection of the Post Road and South Pine Creek Road Wednesday afternoon complained of right knee pain and was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, police said.

He was crossing within the crosswalk when the driver made a right turn on red and apparently didn’t see the victim, according to the report.

The driver was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Lussier said.

A 14-year-old Trefoil Court resident was issued a juvenile summons for disorderly conduct Wednesday evening after he allegedly choked his mother during a disagreement over a cell phone.

The juvenile admitted to choking his mother because he “was angry,” Lussier said. His court date is today; he was released back to his mother’s custody.
