Police Announce 'Click It or Ticket' Results

Nationwide Campaign Ended This Week

The Fairfield Police Department recently participated in the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign that started last month and concluded on June 5, 2011. This nationwide program is credited with increasing the public’s compliance with seatbelt laws. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts saved 12,713 lives in 2009 and high-visibility programs such as the “Click It or Ticket” are widely credited with increasing seat belt usage rates to 85 percent in 2010.

Officers conducted checkpoints at various locations around Fairfield in addition to their routine patrol enforcement. A summary of the activity relating to this program showed 324 tickets for failing to wear seatbelts, 8 Driving Under the Influence arrests and 95 other traffic enforcement related tickets ranging from speeding to unregistered motor vehicles.

Programs that target motor vehicle law compliance are proven to help save lives. Motor vehicle law enforcement, including seatbelt enforcement, is a big part of the mission of the Fairfield Police Department which is to “Make Fairfield Safer.”
