Police Blotter for April 4: Dressing Room Peeper Charged with Breach of Peace,Children Left in Vehicle

The Fairfield Police Department’s press briefing on Monday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

Warrant Arrest on Dec. 2010 Motor Vehicle Charge

A New Jersey woman was arrested April 1 on a warrant related to a December 2010 motor vehicle charge.

According to police, on Dec. 23, officers stopped a car being operated by Aja Lathrop, 22, of Jersey City, after doing a routine license plate check that indicated a suspended registration due to lack of insurance. On that offense, she was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating with a suspended registration and operating without insurance.

When she did not appear in court, a warrant was issued for failure to appear. On the new charge, a $1,500 bond and court date of April 12 was set.

Warrant Arrest on Aug. 2010 Burglary

A Shelton man was arrested April 1 on a warrant related to an August 2010 burglary.

According to police, on Aug. 26, Martin Bojnec, 28, of Shelton, broke into a Fairfield home and stole $30,000 worth of jewelry from a master bedroom. He was charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary.

On these charges, a $50,000 bond and April 7 court date was set.

Loud Party Draws Disorderly Conduct Charges

Two Fairfield University students were arrested April 1 after officers discovered a loud party that had gotten out of hand.

According to police, at around 11:30 p.m., officers heard loud music coming from a residence at Fairfield Beach Road and, upon investigation, found more than 100 people in the home. Kiley Roohan, 22, of Cockeysville, MD, and Josephine Amendola, 22, of Killingworth, CT, were each charged with disorderly conduct. They were released on a written promise to appear in court on April 12.

Children Left in Vehicle

A Bridgeport woman was arrested April 2 after a third party reported two small children were left unattended in a vehicle.

According to police, at around 7 p.m., a complainant reported two children left alone for at least five minutes in a vehicle parked outside Walgreens at 740 Villa Ave. When officers arrived on the scene, they observed an infant in a car seat and a toddler in the rear of the vehicle. When the driver of the car, Janet Torres, 31, of Eaton Street, emerged from the store, she told police that she had gone inside to get medicine for one of the children, who was sick. She was issued a misdemeanor summons for two counts of leaving children in a vehicle and released on a promise to appear in court on April 11.

Dressing Room Peeper Charged with Breach of Peace

A Bridgeport man was arrested April 3 after he was observed looking under stalls in the women’s dressing room at Kohl’s Dept. Store.

According to police, at around noon, a female complainant reported seeing a man crouching down and looking under the stall while she was inside changing. The woman’s mother, who was waiting outside, also observed this and reported the incident to store security. The man, identified as Luis Fernando, 21, of Lenox Ave., left the store but was located riding a bike down the street near T.J. Maxx’s. Fernando admitted to the offense and was charged with second-degree breach of peace. He posted a $250 bond and was issued a court date of April 11.

Argumentative Bar Patron Charged with Criminal Trespass

A Bridgeport man was arrested April 3 after an incident at Nuvo Lounge, 238 Post Road.

According to police, Brian Dorsey, 27, of Beachview Ave., had been inside the bar creating problems when the building’s fire alarm was triggered around 1:30 a.m. and its occupants ushered outside. When Dorsey tried to re-enter the lounge and was repeatedly told to leave, he refused. When police arrived on the scene, they told him to leave as well, but he again refused, swore at them and became difficult. Officers charged him with first-degree criminal trespass and interfering with an officer, and transported him to headquarters. He continued to be uncooperative and argumentative throughout the booking process.

Dorsey posted a $1,000 cash bond and was issued a court date of April 13.

Argument Turns Violent, Boyfriend Charged with Unlawful Restraint

A Fairfield man was arrested April 4 after an argument with his girlfriend turned physical.

According to police, at around 1:30 a.m., John Lamb, 49, of Morehouse Drive, tried to initiate a talk with his girlfriend, who was trying to sleep. When she put him off, he became aggressive and pinned her down on a bed, with one of her arms bent behind her back in an attempt to keep her from leaving his house. She was able to get free and dial 911, but hung up and left the house. Officers found her a short distance away, interviewed both of them and subsequently charged Lamb with disorderly conduct and second-degree unlawful restraint.

Lamb was transported to police headquarters, then released on a written promise to appear in court April 4.

DUI Charged After Woman Found Passed Out at the Wheel

A Bridgeport woman was arrested April 1 after she was discovered passed out behind the wheel of her car.

According to police, at around 8:30 p.m., a third party saw the woman, who was identified as Elena Chiapetta, 50, of Grand Street, slumped behind the wheel with her foot on the brake, the vehicle in drive and the ignition on. The caller thought the woman needed medical assistance. However, when officers arrived on the scene, they detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the passenger side of the car and noticed an open silver mug containing alcohol inside the car. Chiapetta, whose speech was slurred according to the report, said she had had one vodka tonic earlier in the evening. She failed sobriety tests at the scene and was charged with driving under the influence.

Chiapetta was released after posting a $50 cash bond and given a court date of April 12.

Monroe Woman Faces DUI Charges 

A Monroe woman was arrested April 2 after a traffic stop revealed she was driving while intoxicated.

According to police, at around 2:19 a.m., officers saw a car traveling westbound on the eastbound side of the Post Road near Belmont Street. Police activated their overhead lights, but the car did not pull over until it had traveled another half mile. The driver, Stephanie Lisi, 28, of Farm View Road, failed sobriety tests and was issued a misdemeanor summons for driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

Lisi posted a $100 bond and was given a court date of April 11.

Camera Stolen at Skate Park

A man reported that his camera was stolen April 3 sometime between the hours of 4:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. while he was at the Jennings Beach skate park at 1000 South Benson Rd. The camera is a Contax T3 valued at $700 and was inside a small black leather case.

Bike Stolen from Basketball Court

A man reported that his son’s bike was stolen sometime between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on April 3 while the boy was playing basketball on the court behind First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road. The boy had leaned the bike, a white Hoffman Destroyer BMX valued at $200, against a fence near the court.

Van Broken Into, Laptop and Jacket Taken

A man reported that his Astro van had been broken into around 6 p.m. on April 1 as it was parked at BJ’s on 40 Black Rock Turnpike. According to police, the passenger side window had been smashed and an HP laptop of unknown value and leather jacket valued at $450 had been taken.

Computer Stolen from Fairfield University

A Fairfield University student reported April 2 the theft of an Apple MacBook, valued at $1,200, from a bedroom at Townhouse #6 on the school campus. The student said it was last seen on a desk at around 11:30 p.m. the previous evening.

Radio Faceplate Taken Outside Old Navy

A man reported the theft April 2 of the faceplate of his car radio as it was parked outside Old Navy Dept. store at 2215 Black Rock Turnpike around 4:30 p.m. The faceplate, valued at $200, was described as an Alpine 103-BT.
