Tuesday's press briefing at the Fairfield Police Department included the following cases:
A Fairfield man arrested June 30 on charges he stole $800 from a collection jar for disabled American veterans outside Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield is a suspect in the theft of $1,850 worth of appliances from his landlord's property after he was evicted, police said.
Police said a refrigerator valued at $700, an electric stove valued at $500, a clothes dryer valued at $500 and a lawnmower valued at $150 were stolen from a home on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield where Sean Smith, 35, was living before he was evicted. The theft was reported to police at 2:48 p.m. Monday, police said.

Police said Smith was the only person, other than the landlord, who had keys to the home and that he is a suspect. Smith has not been charged in the theft of appliances, police said.
A Wii game valued at $250 and a camera valued at $120 were reported stolen from a house on Melville Drive in Fairfield during a burglary on Monday, police said.

Police said the homeowner heard noises from her upstairs bedroom about 4:30 a.m. that sounded like someone trying to pry open her front door but didn't call police or leave her bedroom. She left the house at 9 a.m., returned at noon and found a first-floor window open that she had closed. Two small cuts were on the screen by a sliding lock, and the game and camera had been stolen from the living room, police said.
A bicycle valued at $540 was reported stolen from an open garage on Oyster Road in Fairfield about 1:45 p.m. Monday and a mountain bike was left in its place, police said.
A 43-year-old Bridgeport man was charged with criminal violation of a protective order Monday night after police responded to the Fairfield Motor Inn on the Post Road in Fairfield on a report of unsupervised children running around the hotel.
Jose Rodriguez, of Red Oak Road, was held in lieu of $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Aug. 7 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.
Police said Rodriguez was in a hotel room with his girlfriend, an Ansonia resident who has the protective order against him, and that he told officers he was helping to supervise a birthday party. Rodriguez told police the protective order should have been removed from the system, but police said the court order was non-expiring. The incident took place about 9:21 p.m. Monday, police said.
