Bridgeport man charged with weapons in car
A 23-year-old Bridgeport motorist was arrested Monday on two counts of having weapons in a motor vehicle after a Fairfield police officer pulled over the car he was driving because it didn't have a front license plate, police said.
Police said the back license plate on the Chevy Lumina that Samuel Cooke, of St. Stephens Road, was driving on Tunxis Hill Road in Fairfield about 1:05 p.m. belonged on a Pontiac Grand Am and that police pulled Cooke over in the parking lot of Super Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue in Fairfield.

The officer asked Cooke if he had any contraband or weapons in the car and Cooke said he didn't, police said. Cooke then gave the officer consent to search his car, and the officer found a box cutter/knife in the front console and a police baton with a stainless steel tip on a rear seat, police said.
Cooke also was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of plate, operating without a license and no insurance, police said.
