Police Blotter for July 22: Arrest for Theft of Energy Drinks and Cereal

Two Men Arrested for Theft of Monster Energy Drinks and Cereal From Supermarket; Copper Leaders Stolen From Church; Vandalism at FWMS; Bike Theft

Thursday's press briefing at the Fairfield Police Department included the following cases:

Two Bridgeport men accused of stealing $180 worth of Monster energy drinks and bran flakes from Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield Wednesday morning were each arrested on larceny charges.

Fernando Garcia, 34, of Louisiana Avenue, and Jose Casillas, 46, of Seaview Avenue, were each charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. Garcia was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court July 29; Casillas was held in lieu of $500 bond and scheduled to appear July 29 in court, police said.

Police said an assistant manager at Super Stop & Shop saw Garcia load up a shopping cart with Monster energy drinks and bran flakes and then run out of the supermarket pushing the cart about 10:10 a.m. Garcia then got into a car where Casillas was waiting for him, and Casillas started to drive off, police said.

Officers stopped the car as it was leaving the parking lot and the assistant manager identified Garcia and Casillas as being involved in the theft, police said.

Copper leaders valued at $300 were reported stolen off First Church Congregational on Beach Road in Fairfield sometime between Friday and Monday. The theft was reported to police at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the leaders had been ripped off the church and likely would be used in a home renovation project or sold at a scrap yard for cash.

A rock was thrown through two classroom windows at Fairfield Woods Middle School in Fairfield sometime between 3:30 p.m. Friday and Sunday. The vandalism was reported to police on Wednesday. Police said the windows were on the south side of a wing of the school that would be demolished as part of an upcoming expansion and renovation project at the Fairfield Woods Road school. A damage estimate wasn't available.

A Trek 21-speed bicycle valued at $200 was reported stolen from underneath a tarp in a driveway outside an apartment at 58 Post Road in Fairfield sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. Thursday, police said.
