Altered Prescription Results in Arrest at Rite Aid; Arrest for Breach of Peace After Fight; Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges; Thefts from Motor Vehicles

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Thursday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A 33-year-old Fairfield man accused of altering a prescription in an attempt to get Vicodin was arrested Wednesday at Rite Aid Pharmacy on the Post Road in downtown Fairfield.

Police said Michiel Schouten, of Longview Avenue, changed a prescription for Motrin to one for Vicodin. The pharmacist believed the prescription may have been altered, verified it was altered and called police, police said.

The pharmacist later called Schouten and told him his prescription was ready, and, when Schouten returned to Rite Aid, he was arrested and charged with second-degree forgery and alteration of a prescription, police said.

Schouten was released on $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear March 21 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.

A 53-year-old Fairfield man was charged Wednesday afternoon with breach of peace after a fight with his girlfriend, police said.

Officers were called to the Cambridge Street home of Peter Craft about 4:07 p.m. on a report from his girlfriend that he had assaulted her, police said. When officers arrived, the victim said Craft had struck her in the face and left, though he may be hiding in the garage, police said.

Police said officers found Craft in the garage and charged him with breach of peace. He was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court Thursday, police said.

A 22-year-old Stratford motorist, stopped by police early Thursday on Commerce Drive in Fairfield because his car didn't have a front license plate, was arrested on drug charges.

Karl Belamour, of Wiklund Avenue, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court March 22. Belamour also was cited for operating a motor vehicle under suspension, failure to return a license under suspension and failure to display a front plate. On those charges, he was released on a promise to appear in court on March 21, police said.

Police said an officer could smell an odor of marijuana coming from Belamour's car when the officer pulled it over about 2:05 a.m.

A compact disc and DVD player valued at $300 and mounted in a car was reported stolen after the car's owner had it towed from Grandview Street in Bridgeport to Meineke Car Care Center on Kings Highway East in Fairfield on Monday. The theft was reported to police on Wednesday. Police said the compact disc player and DVD player was missing from the car when the owner went to pick it up.

A Sirius radio valued at $300 was reported stolen from an unlocked car parked on Homeland Street in Fairfield sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
