Detectives Staking Out an Area Where Burglaries Have Occurred Arrest Man on Weapons Charges; Shoplifting Arrest

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Friday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A 21-year-old Bridgeport motorist was arrested on weapons charges Thursday morning by detectives staking out an area of town where burglaries have occurred.

Police said detectives pulled over a car operated by Shaye Plummer, of Lakeview Avenue, because its license plate belonged to a different car. They found a .38-caliber pistol and 4-inch buck knife in the car after stopping it by Wells and Charles streets in Bridgeport, police said.

Police said detectives were conducting surveillance by Suburban Avenue in Fairfield about 10:30 a.m. when they learned that the license plate belonged on another car. A passenger in Plummer's car fled after the stop, police said.

Plummer was charged with two counts of weapons in a motor vehicle. He was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court March 21, police said. He also was cited for misuse of plates, operating a vehicle while under suspension, no insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, police said.

"Detectives not only investigate burglaries, obviously, but they go out to conduct surveillance to locate anybody who is committing or might be about to commit a burglary," said Police Chief Gary MacNamara. "They conducted a motor vehicle stop after a vehicle was seen that they believed may have been involved in burglaries."

MacNamara said police are still investigating whether Plummer is connected to burglaries in Fairfield and the identity of the passenger who fled from the car.

A 45-year-old Bridgeport man accused of stealing a 7-inch LED television from CVS Pharmacy at 1968 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield Thursday evening was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny.

Officers found Joseph Carter, of Park Avenue, walking on Black Rock Turnpike after receiving a report of the shoplifting at 6:46 p.m., police said. Officers found the TV on the ground next to Carter and found a car charger, home charger and ear plugs, all in their original wrappers, on him, police said.

Carter was held in lieu of $1,000 bond and was scheduled to appear March 24 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.
