Tomlinson Middle School Student Arrested on Breach of Peace Charge; Burglary on Moody Avenue; Vandalism at Cemetery; Theft From Motor Vehicle on Pequot Avenue

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Wednesday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A 14-year-old student at Tomlinson Middle School was arrested Tuesday after he assaulted another student in a locker room during gym class.

Police said the 14-year-old boy shoved a 13-year-old boy into lockers three times and threw him onto a wooden bench, causing him to land on a concrete floor. The 14-year-0ld then punched the victim in the head, police said.

Police said a teacher walked in while the victim was still on the floor.

Officers went to the home of the victim after the assault and then went to the 14-year-old student's home, where he was charged with breach of peace.

Police declined to say what sparked the attack. The victim apparently laughed at a comment made by another student toward the suspect, police said.

The 14-year-old was not identified by police because he is considered to be a juvenile under state law. He was released on a promise to appear in Juvenile Court in Bridgeport on March 25, police said.

Two cameras, valued at $400 and $250, an iPod Touch, valued at $300, and jewelry of unknown quantity and value were reported stolen from a house on Moody Avenue in Fairfield during a burglary between noon and 4:38 p.m. Tuesday. Entry was gained by smashing a ground-floor window, police said.

Five tombstones were knocked over in a small cemetery on Old Post Road, between Turney Road and South Benson Road sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. Police said a woman who walks in the cemetery daily noticed the vandalism and called police about 3:12 p.m. Tuesday. The headstones were not damaged, police said.

Twenty compact discs valued at a total of $200 were reported stolen from an unlocked car parked in a driveway on Pequot Avenue in Fairfield's Southport neighborhood sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday. Police said another unlocked car in the driveway was entered but nothing was stolen.
