$4K Worth of Tools Stolen From Construction Trailer at Nursing Home; Three Juveniles Arrested for Shoplifting at Bob's Stores; Motor Vehicle Break-In on Grasmere Avenue; Arrest for Forgery, Larceny

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Tuesday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

About $4,000 worth of tools were reported stolen from a construction trailer outside Ludlowe Center for Health & Rehabilitation on Jefferson Street in Fairfield sometime between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday.

Police said the trailer had been locked and that the stolen tools included a demolition saw valued at $1,500, a laser valued at $1,000, and a cordless drill kit, hammer drill and generator, each of which was valued at $500.

The lock was missing when the theft was discovered, police said.

Three Fairfield girls were each arrested on a larceny charge after they allegedly tried to steal clothing from Bob's Stores on the Post Road in Fairfield Monday evening.

A 13-year-old girl was charged with sixth-degree larceny for trying to steal $39.98 worth of clothing, a 14-year-old girl was charged with sixth-degree larceny for trying to steal $44.49 worth of clothing, and another 14-year-old girl was charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny by bringing clothing from racks into a dressing room where the other girls concealed the clothing and tried to leave the store about 6:31 p.m., police said.

A loss prevention officer at Bob's Stores detained the girls until police arrived, police said. Each girl was released to the custody of a parent and was scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in Bridgeport on May 23, police said.

A laptop computer case of unknown value and containing personal papers was reported stolen from a car parked on Grasmere Avenue in Fairfield sometime between 11 p.m.Monday and 7:33 a.m. Tuesday, police said. A passenger-side window was smashed to gain entry, police said.

A 55-year-old New Haven man accused of forging a stolen check and cashing it for $385 in December was arrested Monday on charges of second-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny.

Rodger Torpey, of Dwight Street, was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court May 17, police said.

It wasn't clear how Torpey came to possess the blank check, which was stolen from a house on Hunter Road in Fairfield, but police said Torpey knew people who were acquaintances of the homeowner.
