Motor Vehicle Break-Ins; Three Juveniles Arrested for Stealing Bike; Woman Bitten by Raccoon

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Friday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

Police are investigating the following additional motor vehicle break-ins in Fairfield:

A GPS unit of unknown value was reported stolen from a car parked in a driveway on Melville Avenue late Wednesday or early Thursday. Police said the victim reported the theft at 1:58 p.m. Thursday and said the doors had been locked but there was no sign of forced entry.

A toolbox containing about $200 worth of tools, registration paperwork and a car battery valued at $100 were reported stolen from a car parked at Calvin United Methodist Church on Kings Highway sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 1:45 p.m. Thursday. A rear, driver's-side window was smashed to gain entry, and the cost to replace the window was estimated at $100, police said.

A carbon monoxide meter valued at $500, a gas pressure tester valued at $200 and a toolbox containing tools valued at $600 were reported stolen from a car parked outside Nutmeg Bowl on Villa Avenue sometime between 9:53 p.m. and midnight Thursday. A passenger-side window was smashed to gain entry; the cost to replace the window was estimated at $300, police said.

A GPS unit valued at $150 and $4 in change were reported stolen from a car parked outside Best Western Black Rock Inn on Kings Highway Cutoff. The theft was reported to police at 9 a.m. Friday. A driver's-side window was smashed to gain entry, and the cost to replace the window was estimated at $400, police said.

Three Bridgeport teens were arrested Thursday after they allegedly stole a bicycle from Marlborough Terrace in Fairfield.

A 15-year-old was charged with sixth-degree larceny and simple trespass, and two other 15-year-olds were charged with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. Each was turned over to a parent and was scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in Bridgeport on May 20, police said.

Police said officers found the three 15-year-olds, who were not identified by police because they are considered to be juveniles under state law, riding bikes on Eleanor Terrace in Fairfield and that one of the bikes, valued at $100, had been stolen from Marlborough Terrace. Police were tipped off to the bike theft by a resident on Marlborough Terrace, and all three bikes were confiscated, police said.

An 81-year-old woman who lives on Wilson Street in Fairfield was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after she was bitten by a raccoon in her home, police said.

Police said the woman was bitten when she tried to pick up the raccoon and remove it about 12:45 p.m. "She was able to get the raccoon off her and outside, and it went into a neighbor's yard," said Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman.

The woman was bitten on her left pinky finger and was taken to a hospital by AMR Ambulance Co., police said. The raccoon could not be found, police said.
