Bridgeport Motorist Arrested on Drug Charges After Allegedly Lighting Bowl of Marijuana at Traffic Light; Rear Window on Van Smashed

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Tuesday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A 27-year-old Bridgeport motorist was arrested on drug charges Monday morning after a police officer saw her lighting a bowl of marijuana while stopped at a traffic light by Post and North Benson roads in Fairfield, police said.

Police said the officer saw Ashley Dicarlo, of Gilman Street, lighting a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana while stopped at a red light for westbound traffic on the Post Road about 9:12 a.m. "He observed Ashley Dicarlo lighting what he knew to be a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana," said Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman.

The officer stopped Dicarlo's car, asked what she was smoking and she handed him a glass pipe that had marijuana residue in it, police said. Dicarlo also had a small baggie containing marijuana residue in the center console of her car, police said.

Dicarlo was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court June 3, police said.

The rear window on a van parked at a shopping center on Villa Avenue in Fairfield was smashed sometime between 4:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Monday. The van was parked by Clasp Homes and the estimated cost to replace the window was $750, police said.
