Fairfield Woman Has Identity Stolen, $4,505 in Charges Rung Up on Fraudulent Debit Card; Fairfield Man Arrested on Burglary, Larceny Charges

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Friday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A Fairfield woman reported to police on Thursday that someone took out a debit card in her name and rang up more than $4,500 in purchases in New Jersey.

Police said the identity thief used the fraudulent debit card to charge $3,595 worth of merchandise at a Wal-Mart in Kearney, N.J., with charges of $307 and $603 at other stores in New Jersey. The thief opened an account with the debit card and made the purchases on Saturday, and Bank of America notified the Fairfield woman of the charges on Sunday, police said. The woman was a victim of identity theft in January and an arrest was made in that case, police said.

A 40-year-old Fairfield man accused of stealing a roll of Tyvec house wrap from a house under construction on Ponuncamo Road in Fairfield on Thursday was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.

Police said a contractor at the site saw Trevor Kilgore, of nearby Romanock Road in Fairfield, stealing the house wrap, which was valued at $150 to $160, about 3:49 p.m. and called police. Kilgore had stolen the house wrap from an unlocked garage on the property, police said.

Kilgore was arrested at the scene and released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court May 31, police said.
