Police Blotter for May 4: Motor Vehicle Break-Ins

Motor Vehicle Break-Ins on Limerick Road and Melville Avenue; Theft From Locker at Fairfield U.; Leaf Blower Stolen From Alternative High School; Shoplifting Arrest

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Wednesday included the following cases. Arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

A plastic case filled with DVDs, an iPod adapter, a Blackberry charger and prescription sunglasses valued at $400 were reported stolen from an unlocked car parked on Limerick Road in Fairfield sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday. The thefts were reported to police on Tuesday.

A purse containing a camera valued at $80 and a wallet valued at $50 and that had $100 cash, a driver's license, credit cards and personal papers was reported stolen from a car parked in a driveway on Melville Avenue in Fairfield early Wednesday. A passenger-side window was smashed to gain entry, police said. The theft was reported to police at 9:09 a.m. Wednesday.

A money clip valued at $100 and holding $40 cash, credit cards and personal papers was reported stolen from a locker in Fairfield University's recreation complex sometime between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday. The theft was reported to police on Tuesday. Entry to the locker was forced, and the thief used one of the stolen cards to ring up $1,700 in charges, which included $1,000 at Dick's Sporting Goods in Milford, The Home Depot in Orange and Robek's in Milford, according to police. The cost to repair the locker was estimated at $100, police said.

A backpack leaf blower valued at $450 was reported stolen from outside the town's Program for Alternative Learning on Biro Street in Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon. An employee in the Fairfield Board of Education's maintenance department reported the theft at 5 p.m. and said it took place around 1:30 p.m., police said.

A 32-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny Tuesday afternoon after he took off his shoes in Bob's Stores on the Post Road in Fairfield and put on a new pair of sneakers valued at $80 and walked out of the store, police said.

Police said Clinton M. Steinberg, of Fairfield Avenue, was detained by a Bob's Stores security guard until police officers arrived. Steinberg was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court May 16, police said.

The incident took place about 12:02 p.m., police said.
