Arrests for Creating a Public Disturbance; DUI Arrest; Shoplifting Arrests; Burglary; Pickpocket at Supermarket; Theft from Home; Disorderly Conduct Arrests

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing today included the following cases:

A 25-year-old Bridgeport man accused of urinating against the side of the Cumberland Farms building on Kings Highway East in Fairfield early Saturday was charged with creating a public disturbance.

Alberto Morales, of Noble Avenue, was given an infraction that carries a $103 fine after the 12:41 a.m. incident, police said.

A 36-year-old Canton motorist was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence early Saturday after police said he was slumped unconscious over the wheel at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Easton Turnpike in Fairfield with the car engine running and the gear in "drive."

Dana Richardson, of Blueberry Lane, failed field sobriety tests and was held in lieu of $100 bond, pending an appearance on June 1 in Bridgeport Superior Court. Police said the car was stopped in the middle of the intersection about 3:25 a.m.

A man and woman accused of trying to steal about $348 worth of clothes from Marshalls on the Post Road in Fairfield Friday evening were arrested.

Bernadette Brown, 34, of Elmsford, N.Y., was charged with fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny. She was held in lieu of $200 bond and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court June 1, police said.

Donovan Depass, 37, of Dawn Street in Fairfield, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of $100 bond and also scheduled to appear in court June 1.

Brown and Depass were detained by store security until officers arrived about 6 p.m., police said.

A house on Sunfield Lane in Fairfield was burglarized sometime between noon and 4 p.m. Sunday and about $1,000 cash was stolen, police said.

Police said a window on a back door was smashed to gain entry and that the house had been ransacked.

A 56-year-old Bridgeport man accused of stealing $21.28 worth of cheese from Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield Saturday afternoon will be extradited to New Jersey where he has a warrant for failure to appear in court on a probation violation, police said.

Nabel Lopez, of Parrot Avenue, was charged with sixth-degree larceny for the theft of cheese and he was held in lieu of $100,000 bond on a charge of being a fugitive from justice. The warrant for failure to appear is out of Elizabeth, N.J., police said.

Lopez was detained by security at Super Stop & Shop until officers arrived about 3:58 p.m., police said.

A pickpocket struck in three different incidents in Fairfield on Sunday - two at Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff and another at The Home Depot.

Police said a shopper at Super Stop & Shop had $100 stolen from her wallet on Sunday morning. A store employee found her wallet on the floor and it was missing $100 about 11:57 a.m., police said.

In another incident, a woman who went to the checkout line in Super Stop & Shop about 12:26 p.m. discovered her wallet, which contained $20 cash, a credit card and driver's license, was missing, police said.

In the third incident, the pickpocket, described by police as a heavy-set Hispanic male in his 30s with short, cropped dark hair, stole a wallet that contained $100 cash, credit cards, checks and a driver's license from a shopper at The Home Depot on Sunday afternoon, police said.

In what was likely an unrelated incident, a woman reported that a wallet was stolen from her purse while she was at The Sandcastle, a playground at Jennings Beach, about 2:27 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the woman had put her purse on a bench to take pictures and then went to Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff, where she realized her wallet had been stolen. Her wallet contained credit cards, a debit card and driver's license, police said.

A 21-year-old Fairfield man accused of urinating on a shed at The Bear & Grill restaurant on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield early Sunday was charged with creating a public disturbance.

Bryan Koehler, of High Point Lane, was given an infraction that carries a $103 fine after the 12:42 a.m. incident, police said.

A Gargoyle trinket box and $20 were reported stolen from a bookcase in a house on Soundview Avenue in Fairfield Friday afternoon. There was no sign of forced entry to the house, police said.

Two men were charged with disorderly conduct early today after police responded to a report of a loud and noisy party on Fairfield Beach Road in Fairfield.

George Hawxhurst, 21, of Greenlawn, N.Y., and Daniel Greer, 21, of Avon, were each released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court June 1, police said.

Police said about 100 people were in a rear common area and were playing loud music and drinking alcohol. Hawxhurst and Greer refused officers' orders to leave about 6 a.m., police said.
