Bridgeport Man Arrested for Stealing $623 From Cash Drawer at Motel; Vandalism to Car; Home Health Aide Arrested on Larceny Charge

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing on Tuesday included the following cases. Arrest information, supplied by the Fairfield Police Department, does not indicate a conviction.

A 38-year-old Bridgeport man accused of stealing $623 from a cash drawer at the Fairfield Motor Inn on the Post Road in Fairfield Monday night was arrested after investigators recognized him, on surveillance tape, from a previous burglary arrest, police said.

Lonnie Jackson, of Coleman Street, stole money from behind the motel's front check-in counter after the clerk left to address a noise complaint in one of the rooms and then went next door to the Circle Diner to pick up food, police said. The clerk didn't lock the motel's exterior doors when he left, and Jackson entered the motel, went behind the counter and took money from a cash drawer, police said.

Investigators who looked at surveillance tape of the theft recognized Jackson from a previous burglary arrest and went to his home on Coleman Street to interview him. Jackson admitted to stealing the money, and police recovered $500; Jackson said he spent the other $123 on heroin, police said.

Jackson was charged with fifth-degree larceny and released on $1,000 bond, pending an appearance Sept. 28 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.

A 43-year-old home health aide was arrested Monday on charges that he stole an ATM card from a Fairfield resident under his care and withdrew a total of $740.

Robin Brown, of Putnam Avenue in Bridgeport, whom police said was employed by Shamrock Home Care, was charged with fifth-degree larceny and third-degree identity theft after turning himself in at the Fairfield Police Department upon learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said.

In addition to stealing an ATM card and making unauthorized withdrawals, Brown also applied for a debit card under the victim's name, police said.

Brown was held in lieu of $50,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear Oct. 4 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.
