Drug Arrest; Stolen Laptop; Stolen Pocketbook; Disorderly Conduct Arrest

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing today included the following cases:

A 22-year-old Fairfield man who told police he had been beaten up and robbed of $800 in February was arrested Monday after police said he had really been robbed of $800 worth of marijuana during a drug deal.

Michael Ferguson, of Catamount Road, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, falsely reporting an incident and second-degree false statement. He was held in lieu of $25,000 bond and was scheduled to appear today in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Police said Ferguson had called police on Feb. 23 to report that he had been assaulted and robbed of $800 by two men and a woman by the corner of Valley Road and Wilson Road in Fairfield. He gave officers a description of the car used by his assailants, and officers found the car and assailants on Park Avenue in Bridgeport, police said.

Officers found $800 worth of marijuana in the trio's car and determined that Ferguson had actually been robbed of marijuana and not cash, police said.

The trio, who included two Fairfield teenagers and a Bridgeport teenager, had been arrested at the scene on robbery, larceny and other charges.

A laptop computer was stolen from a box in a home on Sunnyridge Avenue in Fairfield sometime late Sunday or early Monday, police said.

The thief placed replaced the laptop with a package of copy paper so the box would have a similar weight, police said.

The theft took place after the victim was involved in a car accident and went to a hospital. Her car was towed and stored in an auto body lot, and the victim's mother went to her daughter's car to retrieve belongings and took the laptop to the Sunnyridge Avenue home. A pocketbook was reported stolen from an unlocked GMC Yukon parked at CVS, 698 Post Road, sometime between 7:45 p.m. and 7:55 p.m. Monday. The pocketbook was later found behind Joe's American Bar & Grill on the Post Road and was returned to its owner with all the contents still inside, police said.

An 18-year-old Fairfield woman accused of getting into a dispute with her mother after she came home drunk and wasn't permitted to drive her mother's car was arrested Monday night on charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer.

Olivia Dieffenbach, of Baros Street, was released after posting $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court today, police said.

Police said Dieffenbach swore at her mother, called her names, threw a mug at her and resisted arrest about 9:59 p.m., police said.
