Theft from Motor Vehicle; Purse Stolen and Recovered Without Cash; Drug Arrest; Delivered Packages Stolen from Side of House

Today's press briefing at the Fairfield Police Department included the following cases:

A wallet containing credit cards, a Social Security card and personal papers was reported stolen from an unlocked Chevrolet Tahoe parked on Congress Street in Fairfield sometime between Friday night and Sunday morning. The theft was reported to police at 1:44 p.m. Monday, police said.

A purse containing $150, a driver's license, a Social Security card and medical cards was reported stolen from a shopping carriage at Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield Monday evening. Police said the owner of the purse noticed it missing when she was putting groceries into her car about 7:08 p.m. The victim received a call about 10:28 p.m. Monday from a man who said he found her purse in a black bag in Bridgeport and that he would leave it for her at Nick's Grocery Store on Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, police said. When the woman went to retrieve her purse, the $150 in cash was missing, but everything else was in the purse, police said.

A 42-year-old Fairfield man was arrested on drug charges early today after police officers were patrolling the Tunxis Hill area in Fairfield due to the large number of motor vehicle break-ins in the neighborhood in recent days.

Gary Vestuti, of Warren Avenue, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $300 bond and is scheduled to appear July 6 in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.

Patrol officers spotted a Toyota Highlander parked in a driveway on Warren Avenue in Fairfield about 1:24 a.m. with its dome light on and doors opened, police said. When the officers approached it, they found a man slumped over the wheel.

The man told officers he was depressed. Officers found inside the vehicle a pill bottle that had crack cocaine and also found three baggies of marijuana, glass smoking pipes and filters commonly used in smoking pipes, police said.

Two packages containing a bike stem, a chain lube and de-greaser, valued at a total of $50, were reported stolen from the side of a house on Mayfair Road in Fairfield this morning, police said.
