Fighting 13-Year-Old Relatives Arrested in Shoe Department; 'Stolen' Car Attributed to Bad Memory; Gun Missing from Mailands Road; Purse Stolen at Beach; Larceny Arrest

The Fairfield Police Department's press briefing today included the following cases:

Two 13-year-old Orange children were each charged with breach of peace Tuesday morning after they allegedly screamed at each other and pushed each other in Marshall's on the Post Road in Fairfield.

The 13-year-olds, whose names were not released by police because they are considered to be juveniles under state law, were turned over to the custody of their grandmother and were scheduled to appear July 15 in Juvenile Court in Bridgeport, police said.

Police said a fight broke out between the 13-year-olds in the shoe department of Marshall's about 11 a.m. and that the store manager, who normally has to check with Marshall's corporate offices before calling police, thought the fight was so severe that she immediately called 911. The 13-year-olds' attitude was very poor when officers arrived, police said.

A resident on Mayweed Road in Fairfield reported that her 2010 Nissan Rogue had been stolen from the parking lot of Super Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue in Fairfield about 11:04 a.m. Tuesday. But when police arrived, the 67-year-0ld resident remembered that she had driven her husband's car to the supermarket, police said.

A 9-millimeter gun owned by a resident on Mailands Road in Fairfield was reported to be missing or stolen on Tuesday.

Police said the resident keeps the gun, valued at $500, in the trunk of his car but it wasn't there when he looked for it. He thought the gun may have been stolen sometime between June 24 and Friday, police said. The possible theft was reported to police at 3 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

A purse valued at $300 and containing an iPhone valued at $300, a Buddha necklace valued at $500 and keys to a car was reported stolen from the sand on Penfield Beach in Fairfield sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Tuesday while the purse's owner was swimming in Long Island Sound, police said. The car was still in the parking lot, police said.

A 24-year-old Bridgeport man accused of using a Fairfield man's checking account to pay for charges on a Sprint account was arrested Tuesday on a charge of fourth-degree larceny.

Andre Whaley, of Benson Street, was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court July 14 after he turned himself in at police headquarters about 10:25 p.m. upon learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said.

Monthly withdrawals had been made to the checking account since August 2009 and totaled $1,343, police said.

Police said Whaley denied being directly involved in the crime and said his boyfriend had been paying his bills.
