Police: Fairfield Man Threatened Father with Hatchet

[Editor's note: Arrest information is supplied by the Fairfield Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.]

A Fairfield man allegedly threatened his father with a hatchet in the parking lot of Duchess restaurant on the Post Road, police said.

The father called police Sunday to report his son had just threatened him. The two were having a disagreement inside the car in the Duchess parking lot. During the argument, the son allegedly raised a hatchet and said, "one of us is going to die tonight," Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said.

The complainant got out of the car to call police and his son drove off.

The suspect -- Kevin McMahon, 34, of Jennings Road -- was picked up by Orange police in that town. He was transported to Fairfield police headquarters and charged with threatening and breach of peace.

He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation, police said. McMahon was scheduled to have appeared in court on Monday.
