Police Investigate Rash of Car Break-Ins, Thefts

The series of thefts from cars (and one theft of a car) occurred over the weekend.

An Algonquin Road resident reported to police Saturday that a backpack was stolen from his car overnight.

The rear passenger side window of the complainant's car was smashed, police said.

The backpack was filled with water bottles. Nothing of value was reported missing.

Another Alqonguin Road resident reported to police Saturday that someone entered his unlocked vehicle overnight.

An assortment of CDs, valued at a total of $50, was reported stolen, police said. This is under investigation.

A Sweet Basil patron reported to police Saturday that her vehicle was stolen from its parking spot on Duka Avenue overnight.

The complainant said she left the car parked near the restaurant and returned Saturday to find it missing.

The vehicle, a gray 2007 Jeep Liberty, is valued at $12,000. The complainant told police she might have left the sunroof open.

This is under investigation.

A Brookfield Avenue resident reported to police early Monday that both cars in her driveway were entered and items were stolen.

According to the report, both vehicles were unlocked. A purse was stolen from the first vehicle and a wallet and GPS unit ($150) were stolen from the second vehicle.

This is under investigation.

A Lynnbrook Road resident reported to police Monday that a Garmin GPS ($200) was stolen overnight from her locked vehicle.

According to police, the rubber siding of one of the vehicle's doors was pushed in, allowing the suspect to gain entry to the car's interior.

This is under investigation.
