Police Investigating Fatal Car Crash

An elderly woman was killed when her car crashed into a tree on Burroughs Road.

Police are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred Wednesday evening on Burroughs Road. Police have not officially released the name of the victim, an elderly woman, whose car crashed into a tree.

Witnesses reported the woman was traveling eastbound on Burroughs Road, and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Farist Road and Burroughs before the car accelerated at a high rate of speed into the tree.

The victim was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for today; while the autopsy results are normally quick, police are also waiting for a toxicology report, which could take six to eight weeks for results.

Police are searching the vehicle for evidence that may have contributed to the accident, as well as conducting a mechanical inspection to rule out faulty car issues.
