UPDATE: Fairfield Police Identify Drowning Victim

Police have released the name of the man who drowned on Evergreen Hill Road yesterday.

 

UPDATE: Fairfield resident Christopher Perez, 28, of Evergreen Hill Road, drown Sunday while swimming at a neighbors' house at 100 Evergreen Hill Road, police said.

Perez, desrcibed as a good swimmer, was with his 14-year-old stepsister and was reportedly dogsitting for the neighbor. He had permission to use the pool, according to Fairfield Police Deputy Chief Christopher Lyddy.

After Perez had swam the entire length of the pool under water he told his stepsister he was experiencing discomfort in one of his arms. Perez then went back under water and after a short period of time, his stepsister realized he was not surfacing, Lyddy said.

Perez’ stepsister ran home to get her parents, who went to the pool and performed CPR.

Perez was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, Lyddy said. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning. 

Perez and the juvenile were the only ones present at the time of the incident.

detectives are currently on the scene of an apparent drowning at an Evergreen Hill Road residence.

Police confirmed that officers responded to the street for an apparent drowning, but said no additional information is available since the investigation is still ongoing. According to information transmitted over the police scanner, a 28-year-old male was reportedly pulled from a swimming pool.

Evergreen Hill Road is off Congress Street, north of the Merritt Parkway.

Was last year the year the BOE returned $ to the town? Absolutely agree with you about the middle school, we need more STEM offerings. Right now high schoolers are required to show they are proficient in Microsoft Office. Many take a semester long course to help prepare for the test (seems like that time could be better spent). Other students just take the proficiency test. Seems like this can be something that can be addressed earlier than high school. Why not offer the course to 8th graders, and let them show they are proficient in Microsoft Office before they even get to high school.
