A 26-year-old Bridgeport man allegedly dragged a pregnant woman as he attempted to steal her purse at Cumberland Farms on Friday.

The man, identified as Michael Savignano, of 185 Wilson St., was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery, third-degree assault of a pregnant person, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree burglary, and fifth-degree larceny.

The woman reportedly saw him stealing her purse as she walked out of the Kings Highway gas station, and was dragged by his vehicle a short distance as he fled the scene, the Fairfield Citizen reports.

Savignano was arrested the next day after police were able to track him down based on a partial license plate number provided by a witness, The Citizen article states.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on March 10. No plea has been entered in the case.

According to the state Judicial Branch website, Savignano has convictions for sixth-degree larceny, possession of narcotics, fourth-degree larceny, and threatening, dating back to 2009.
