Police Seek Man Accused of Road Rage over Special Needs Buses

The suspect is described as a well-dressed older male in his 60s with gray hair. He drives a black Mercedes.

Fairfield police are looking to identify a man connected two road rage incidents in Fairfield, both involving children with special needs.

A woman reported that at 7:30 a.m. on July 10, a man approached her as she was buckling her 5-year-old child with special needs into her car seat on a First Student bus on Merwins Lane by Redding Road.

The suspect -- described as a well-dressed, older male in his 60s with gray hair -- had gotten out of his black Mercedes and began yelling at the woman and the bus driver about the delay. Police said the man "got into the bus driver's face" before leaving the scene.

A second report was filed this week regarding a June incident. A man matching the description above (driving the same type of car) yelled at a mother helping her special needs child onto a First Student bus. This incident occurred at around 3 p.m. in the area of Joan Drive and Congress Street.

The man reportedly got out of his car and tried to block the woman from helping her child. Later, he got into his car, passed several cars in front of him, and sped up to follow the mother as she drove away from the scene.

Police believe the man lives in the upper Merwins Lane area or on a side street.

"We believe his actions warrant identification so we can take appropriate action for his behavior," department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

"It's incomprehensible that someone could display this type of anger over a child getting on a bus."

Investigators ask that anyone with information call the Fairfield Police Department at 203-254-4800 or Text a Tip. All tips will be kept confidential.
