Police: Thieves Stole Purse From 85-Year-Old Woman

Fairfield Police release video surveillance photos in hopes that the public can help catch the two suspects.

An 85-year-old woman had her purse stolen while she was shopping in Walgreen's Saturday night, and Fairfield Police are hoping you can help catch the suspects.

Images pulled from surveillance cameras show the two suspects and the vehicle they took off in, police said. Those images are included with this article.

According to police, the woman had her purse in the top portion of a carriage while she was shopping at the 740 Villa Avenue business at 8 p.m. Feb. 8. She shopped for about 20 minutes and realized the purse was taken when she got to the checkout line.

Description of the Suspects

Police said video surveillance shows a white male with a thin black beard and goatee walked into the store and left without purchasing anything, but clutching an object close to his body. Police believe he stole the purse. He was wearing a white baseball cap with an unidentified logo on the front, a blue and white New England Patriots jacket, a white and black scarf, and blue jeans.

"The suspect was last seen running very hastily from the front doors of Walgreens and run east across the parking lot where he then entered a vehicle," police said.

The vehicle is red/maroon in color and was missing the rear passenger side hub cap, exposing a black rim on the passenger side, according to police.

Woman's Credit Card Charged

Police said the investigating officer assisted the woman in contacting her credit card companies to report them stolen and to inquire about possible fraudulent activity. They learned that one card had been used at the Walmart Store on Barnum Avenue in Stratford.

The victim’s stolen card was used to make an illegal purchase of a $210.57 Element 32-inch flat panel television. Police said the suspect was accompanied by an unidentified individual described as a black male wearing a white knit hat, long black jacket with a plaid shirt.
