Police: Westport Woman Steals Energy Drinks in Protest of High Gas Prices

Woman Runs Out of Mobil With $10 in Energy Drinks After Saying Gas Station Owes Her

A 28-year-old Westport woman is doing more than complaining about the high cost of gas. According to police, she ran out of a Mobil gas station in Fairfield on Thursday afternoon with energy drinks she didn't pay for after saying since Mobil "stole from her, she was going to steal from them."

Police said Hilary Watt, of Eno Lane, pre-paid for $20 worth of gas at the station by Post and South Pine Creek roads about 4:34 p.m. and became upset at how little gas she was able to pump before the $20 limit was reached and the nozzle shut off.

Watt went into Mobil and argued that she didn't get enough gas for $20, but a Mobil employee told her the meter reached $20 and there was nothing she could do, police said. Watt apparently wasn't satisfied with the answer.

"She stated since Mobil stole from her, she was going to steal from them," said Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman. "She grabbed three five-hour energy shots and ran from the store."

Police said a Mobil employee then called police, who summoned Watt to the Fairfield Police Department. Watt turned over the energy shots to police, who returned them to Mobil, and the manager at Mobil didn't want to press charges, police said. But the manager wanted police to warn Watt not to return to the station, police said.

"She came here and she admitted she didn't get enough gas," Lussier said. "She ought to get a bicycle."
