A Fairfield man was charged with driving under the influence Sunday following a car accident, police said.
One car rear-ended another at the Post Road and Pease Avenue traffic light, according to police. William Saunders, 58, of Mill Plain Road, was allegedly driving the car that struck the other vehicle from behind.
Responding officers reportedly detected the odor of alcohol on Saunders' breath and noted that he was unsteady on his feet. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and admitted to consuming alcohol, according to the report.
Saunders was taken into custody and then transported to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation. He was released by police on a promise to appear in court on Jan. 22.
