Report: Fairfield Man Kills Self in Standoff with Police [Update]

Police initially responded to a domestic dispute call at Fairfield Gardens on Saturday.

Police have reportedly identified the man who commited suicide late Saturday at Fairfield Gardens following a three-hour long standoff as 40-year-old Douglas Garni.

According to an updated report in the CT Post, citing statements made by police, Garni barricaded himself in a unit of the Colonial Gardens Condominiums at about 7:30 p.m., after he threatened his girlfriend.

His girlfriend reportedly managed to escape to a nearby condo and called police, informing them that Garni had several registered firearms.

According to the report, a single gunshot was heard from a wooded area just north of Garni's condo at about 11 p.m. Garni's body was reportedly found in the wooded area.

A man killed himself with a shot to the head late Saturday at Fairfield Gardens condominium following a standoff with police, the Connecticut Post reports.

The man had threatened to kill his girlfriend earlier in the evening, leading to an evacuation of the complex, according to the report.

The woman had escaped the complex and called police around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, after the man had hit her in the head with a gun, according to the Post. 

A single gunshot was heard at about 10:55 p.m. and Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara told the press that the standoff was over at around 11:15 p.m., according to the report.
