Report: Fire Commission Will Not Renew Deputy Chief's Contract

The veteran Fairfield firefighter says he was shocked by the decision.

This will be Deputy Chief Art Reid's last year with the Fairfield Fire Department — and not by choice.

The Fire Commission voted Friday night 5-2 not to renew Reid's contract when it expires in December, according to a report by the Fairfield Citizen.

Reid has served as deputy chief for the last 11 years. Among his many accomplishments, noted during a Fire Commission meeting on Feb. 19, was launching the town's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Reid outlined his accomplishments and had to reapply for his job at the request of Fire Commission Chairman Craig Van Steenbergen, according to minutes from that meeting.

He was "shocked" by the news Friday that his contract would not be renewed, The Citizen reported.
