A ruckus involving several teens and an off-duty police officer erupted at the Thursday evening, police said.

The officer, who works for another town’s police department, reportedly observed two teens driving recklessly in the skate park parking lot. He told Fairfield police that he saw the teens blocking each other’s vehicles from leaving the lot and doing donuts, according to the report.

The officer told the teens to stop driving recklessly and asked for one of the teen’s keys, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said. The youth refused and, according to the report and statements from witnesses, he and several of his friends assaulted the officer.

The office managed to get back to his car and take out his badge, at which point the group of juveniles began to break up and scatter, Lussier said.

The officer had gone to the skate park with his kids, according to the report. Fairfield police are investigating the fracas and talking to witnesses, but no arrests have been made as of Friday.

Some of the disturbance was caught on tape by witnesses and town surveillance cameras, Lussier said.
