Fairfield Firefighters Control Reef Road Blaze

Officials are investigating the cause of the Saturday afternoon blaze at a Reef Road duplex. A man who had been sleeping on the third floor was awoken and safely led out by firefighters.

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire Saturday afternoon that damaged a Reef Road duplex.

According to a press release issued on behalf of Fairfield Fire Department Assistant Chief Chris Tracy, a 911 caller at 1:20 p.m. reported a house fire at 382 Reef Road.   On direction from Lt. Bill Tuttle of Engine 1, officials searched the dwelling and on the third floor firefighter Larry Noga found its sole occupant, Tom Obst, asleep, Tracy said in the release.

He exited the building safely while firefighters from Engine 2, led by Lt. Patrick Barry, searched the adjacent duplex “and coordinated ventilation operations,” the press statement said.

Other units that responded to the scene include Engines 4 and 5 and Ladders 1 and 2, as well as Car 3, Tracy said.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by Asst. Chief William Kessler of the Fire Marshal’s Office,” Tracy said in the release. “Chief Richard Felner also responded to the scene. Asst. Chief George Gomola was the incident commander.”
