State Trooper Charged with Stealing from Victim of Fatal Accident

The Trooper was arrested today and has been stripped of his police powers.

An 18-year Connecticut State Police veteran was arrested today on allegations that he stole personal belongings from a person who died in an accident on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield.

According to a release from Lt. J. Paul Vance,

Huntsman, a trooper based out of Troop G in Bridgeport, was charged with two counts of third-degree larceny, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and interfering with police.

In a report just released by state police, Vance said several first responder agencies were present on the scene of the accident, including state police, Fairfield fire, and EMS. Subsequent to this fatal accident, family members determined that certain personal property belonging to the deceased was not accounted for, including jewelry, clothing, and cash, Vance said. Family members were able to recover the clothing of the deceased from the hospital, but there were still missing items of value, according to the report.

State police initiated an investigation in an attempt to determine the location of the missing property. It was determined that the jewelry had not been logged into evidence by the Trooper investigating the fatal accident, Huntsman.

State Police Detectives conducted numerous interviews and examined evidence that resulted in the seizure of a large amount of cash from the police cruiser of the investigating Trooper. An arrest warrant was issued yesterday and Huntsman was taken into custody today, at Troop I.

Huntsman was processed and released upon posting a $5,000 bond. He will be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Dec. 10.

Huntsman's police powers were suspended upon initiation of this investigation, Vance said, and he will also be subject to a corresponding internal affairs investigation.

Soo many questions here: why all the cash and jewelry on the person, how did family know he had it and report it so fast, where in the squadcar was it hidden,
how many officers on the scene at the time, who arrived first etc etc. You take the good with the bad here. Many great officers out there along with pieces of s*** like this guy. Hold him to the letter of the law as anyone else would be for looting the dead. Set an example with him by having him do REAL time for this. From what I understand inmates have a special fondleness for cops in jail.

Many questions-Was he qualified to go to Afghanistan when he did his tour? Does 18 years of responding to car crashes have a negative effect on a man? Would it be better for police to be guilty until proven innocent than as our law now says 'innocent until proven guilty'? Should a first time offender be given the same consideration as other citizens if he is a policeman? Should we have a group of people who have not made mistakes cast stones?

Don't count on the State Police internal investigation to do the right thing here. They are "the good ole boys club" They will cover the ass of any other officer no matter how far out of the "legal guidlines" they go. I had a Sthby Police officer out and out lie on a police report,( three witnesses testified to this to Internal affairs) he broke several conduct laws, messed up paperwork that was very inportant two times. Lied to his commanding officer twice and after waiting 9 months for the internal affairs to make this right (as they said to me) that trooper also lied on his report and by the time I received it back the legal dept. at the Interanl affairs division had blacked out very import statements in the final report. If you think the Public Safety and interanl affairs dept. are there to help you ..THINK AGAIN!!

FHA Exposed, you can rest. Atticus, Ralph Arnone is next scheduled to appear in court on July 1st, at which point he isRead More expected to enter a plea. As an aside, one isn't supposed to go to bed and wake up still angry at the same thing, day in, day out, week in, week out, month in, month out... I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I care deeply about firefighters and I'm genuinely concerned about you. You were exposed to a lot of chemicals in your career. You may have some endocrine system damage or something causing an electrolyte disorder. This stuff starts out with things like joint pain and minor psychological implications but, it gets much, much worse. Get to the doc. Maybe you're just a spicy guy, maybe Ralph hurt you in some terrible way, or maybe you are sick and as a result, you'll be facing a much shortened a painful life. Honestly, I'm not trying to give you a hard time or pick a fight.
Atticus Fich June 19, 2013 at 06:01 am
Well thanks for your concern Creeky. But at my age I cant say I have lived a shorten life. As forRead More chemicals...well as most of the posters here on this rag say, firemen do nothing 99.9% of the day so I guess the on chemical exposure would be to the big comfy leather chairs in the dayroom. Why do you care anyway Creeky? In your previous posts about me you said, don't feed to trolls. You are not honest Creeky. Take your fake concern and false "honesty" and waste it on someone else. Not trying to give you a hard time, those are your comments about me. Where did you get the info on Ralphy?
Creeky June 19, 2013 at 08:05 am
Atticus, review your own posts. It isn't trolling. It's a vendetta. If you think I'm dishonest,Read More fine. I'm not going to try to speak rationally with someone whom is irrational. Why do I care? Because I've seen how much care fireman are capable of, and how much they give of themselves. It's respect and karma. As far as where I got the info, it's publicly available. If you wanted my help in how to find it yourself, perhaps you shouldn't have attacked my character. You are on your own now.
