Stretch Limo Fire Considered Accidental

Damage Estimated by Firefighters at $50K

A fire that totaled a stretch limousine parked by 500 Kings Highway Cutoff is considered accidental, Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Curry, the incident commander, said Friday.

Curry said the fire, which started in the engine compartment of the stretch limo owned by Korim Douich of New England Avenue, totaled the car, and he put the estimated damage at $50,000.

"In a car, if it's not intentional, which we don't think it was, there's only one thing that could start or ignite a fire and that's electrical," Curry said, adding that the car hadn't been running.

Firefighters, responding to a 911 call about 10:39 a.m. Thursday, had the fire extinguished in about 20 minutes, Curry said. He said the business associated with the 2008 Lincoln Town Car Stretch Limousine was Future Century Limousine in Fairfield.

Arriving firefighters found heavy fire coming from the engine compartment of the stretch limo, which Curry said "sustained a heavy and total loss."

No one was injured, and firefighters advised Douich to contact his insurance company.
