String of Car Break-ins Continue at Fairfield Gym

For the second consecutive week multiple car break-ins have been reported at The Edge, 500 Kings Highway Cutoff in Fairfield.

According to police, a cell phone was stolen from a gym locker room on Jan. 10 and multiple cars were broken into on Jan. 12. $80 cash and credit cards were reported stolen and one vehicle car door was damaged.

Security footage from the gym was reviewed and a white late model, possibly Honda, with dark tinted windows driven by a single subject was observed, but the thefts happen out of the view of the cameras, according to police.

Several cars were also broken into at The Edge last week. Car keys left in the gym locker room were used to gain entry to vehicles and several items, including credit cards, clothes and cologne were removed.

I love the Edge, but gyms are ALWAYS targets for car break-ins. I always think about it there, and here is the story or multiple break-ins. I forgot my packlock for my gym locker the other day... so I just drove across the street to Home Depot and bought a new lock, before I would EVER leave anything in the car there. then I see lockers with items in them with no padlock!! I wouldn't leave my toothbrush unattended there!

Brilliant! It's always helpful when the report gives the thieves important information like "out of the view of the cameras". Think! Come on guys, whose side are you on?!
Jennifer Hochberg January 15, 2014 at 11:40 AM
Common sense folks!! Bring a padlock to use in the locker room at the gym, no matter what gym it is....also remember that this is the start of the new year when there are a LOT of new folks joining the gym to fulfill (hopefully) New Year's resolutions. When it comes to vehicles, common sense must prevail=no valuables in plain sight, plus LOCK your vehicle! There are some folks in town who feel just because they live in Fairfield, its okay to leave the doors unlocked....that's a big no-no especially when there's been many break-ins as of late.

the edge is a soft target. their customers are working out inside for an hour or two. they have an entire parking lot of brand new Porsche's, Audis, Mercedes-Benz, and BMWs. they clearly have no security because this is an on going issue. 2 minutes later the thieves are on I95 and back in the projects in Bridgeport. the edge should rectify this problem. if all of your customers keep getting robed, this screams of a future lawsuit...

Obviously, Brian Kelly has not been to The Edge recently. Porshe's? Audi's? BMW's? The Edge closely resembles Little Bridgeport, especially between the hours of 5-9 p.m. What really infuriates me is someone had the audacity to steal someone else's cologne. The nerve! Jane B and Hochberg are correct. Invest $3 on a lock. If there is a lock, The Edge is responsible for damages.
John Jameson January 15, 2014 at 07:50 PM
"Little Bridgeport?" What's that supposed to mean? If you want to make a comment, be clear what you're saying. If you don't want to say it right out, because people will think it's a racist comment, it probably is a racist comment. As for car break-ins, it's been repeated over and over and over again --don't leave any valuables in your car, lock your car and lock your locker.

John Jameson-I see you're not the brightest bulb in the box. My statement is as clear as day. There are a large majority of members of the Edge that are from Bridgeport. It wasn't racist. It was a fact. My statement was in response to Brian Kelly stating there were BMW's and Porshes all over the lot. There are not. As for break-ins, you are correct. Use a lock and lock your car.

it is no secret that bridgeport is one huge ghetto. lets be honest for once people...
John Jameson January 16, 2014 at 09:01 AM
And how do you know that the majority of the members are from Bridgeport? By the car they drive? And Bridgeport's "one huge ghetto?" I don't know that the people living in million dollar homes in Black Rock, and most likely paying more in property taxes than some in Fairfield, would agree with that statement. Or is your definition of "ghetto" a place where everyone is not as wealthy as you.
Joe Mancini January 16, 2014 at 09:48 AM
Jameson-I have zero interest in getting into a race debate with you, so here are the facts. At The edge on a typical evening, the demographics are approximately 30-35% African American and approximately 20-25% Hispanic. Fairfield is approximately 15% African American and Hispanic combined. Westport is approx. 4% minority, Easton 2%. Trumbull has their own Edge as does Milford and Stratford. Where do you suspect the vast majority of Edge members are coming from?
Joe Mancini January 16, 2014 at 11:22 AM
Evan-Never once did I associate the break-ins with Bridgeport. I just commented that Brian Kelly's statement about the parking lot being full of Porshe's, BMW's and Audi's was incorrect and that the cars in the lot more resembled Bridgeport. If you are offended that Bridgeport is not as affluent as Fairfield, than I guess I am ignorant. As far as my observations, have you been to The Edge between 5-9 p.m.? If not shut your mouth, you ignorant moron.
