Three Chickens Roasted in Coop Fire

Unusual arrests and investigations from the area.

A chicken coop at a Saddle Ridge Road residence was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after the fire was reported at 12:05 a.m. Thursday. The cause of the fire is believed to have been a heat lamp which ignited wood shavings on the coop floor. Three chickens were killed in the incident.

Two Wilton residents, one believed to be the co-captain of the high school wrestling team, were arrested Saturday after allegedly trying to steal a New Canaan Rams flag from the press box at Dunning Field.

One man allegedly ran a stop sign while the other was accused of evading responsibility.

A maintenance man trying to shoo away a group of skateboarders using a parking lot and garage as their skate park, ended up being charged with disorderly conduct. He is accused of grabbing one youth from behind in a bear hug whom he thought was aggressive. The youths told police Roberto "choked" the youth who had "slight redness to his neck," according to the report.

A stolen GPS device was found Thursday on a 19-year-old Fairfield man, who was charged with burglarizing it from a car parked in the Center Street parking lot. When the officer caught up to him, the young man said he was lost and needed a ride to Norwalk. The officer then noticed a charger cord hanging from the man's jacket pocket.

On Feb. 9, police received a call of a suspicious vehicle on Redding Road. According to police, there were two men in a parking lot on a private lot dressed in suits holding rifles. They were conducting a sale of the rifles, and were asked to go somewhere else. No charges were filed.

A Norwalk man was arrested following a disturbance call Sunday, according to police. The disturbance stemmed from a verbal argument between the man and his wife regarding the couple’s children. When police arrived, the man put a bag of white powder in his mouth, refusing to spit it out when asked by the officers, and swallowed it. When asked why he swallowed the substance, the man replied, “It’s not cocaine, it’s crushed codeine,” according to the police report.

A man detained in a holding cell at the Norwalk Police Department attempted to escape from the cell. According to police, he climbed into the ceiling briefly before the ceiling tiles gave way causing him to fall to the floor knocking himself unconscious.
