Three people were injured in an early Saturday morning motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer and car on I-95 north in Fairfield.

The three victims had to be extricated from their vehicles, which were badly damaged in the crash, according to a report from the Fairfield Fire Department.

The accident occurred at about 2:26 a.m. near the northbound I-95 rest stop.

On arrival, fire personnel reportedly found all three victims trapped in their vehicles and initiated simultaneous extrications with hydraulic rescue tools. Access Ambulance and Westport EMS were called to assist due to high call volume in the City of Bridgeport, the report states.

The victims' injuries ranged from minor to life threatening, according to the report.

"The vehicles were severely damaged and [that] added to the challenge of gaining access to the victims at this scene," Fairfield Assistant Chief Scott Bisson said in the report.

The accident remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
